NPR Listening

1) I like sports

Write a brief summary of the article:  A Japanese Little league baseball team has made it to the world championships.  They train all day on the weekends.  They all focus on a honing technique until it is perfected.

1) 10 hours of practice?! WOW!




2) I bet those kids are really tired


Write a direct quote from the article that you found intriguing/interesting: "We are not big and strong, but are discipline, selflessness, and hard work make us win."  That is incredible they are so determined



List one connection I can make between this article and something else I know about (whether from personal experience, school, a book I have read, a movie I have seen, or anything else): I used to be a catcher in elementary school.  I played for 4 years.

Write a brief summary of the article:  The giant panda Mei Xiang gave birth to two panda cubs.  One of the panda cubs died unfortunately.  They are going to wait a couple of days before they let the surviving cub have access to its mother

1) I was sad because one of the cubs died


2) I was happy that one of the cubs lived


Write a direct quote from the article that you found intriguing/interesting: "No news yet of a potential name. It's unclear whether the zoo will wait 100 days to name the panda, per tradition." I never knew that was a tradition



List one connection I can make between this article and something else I know about (whether from personal experience, school, a book I have read, a movie I have seen, or anything else): I chose this article because I find animals very interesting.
